I should have a Metro JTM45 head coming in in the next few weeks (from a fellow TGPer) and i really would rather stay in the 1x12 or maybe 2x10 cab range.

What would you suggest for a suitable speaker for a 1x12? something good for cleans but also sounds great cranked up.

A G12-65 might work for you.

I'm looking into getting a high-powered Scumback for my 112 Mojo cab. The cab is also just large enough to fit a JTM45 head perfectly on top. Got to talk to Jim about which speaker would be best very soon!

I purchased a Scumback H75-LHDC-16 ohms 65w for my Overtone. This speaker sounds really sweet...I like it.
I also have a JTM45 clone that really like this speaker...I'm diggin it:)

Just be aware this is a rather bright thingy. The thread originator didn't say whether his 45 will be coming with KT66s or EL34s and for a speaker this bright the choice of output valves is rather crucial.

Another factor to be taken into account is the musical style and other gear in the signal chain. I would concurr on the G12M-65 or perhaps a Fane or a clone there of. Being a fan of Weber speakers I'm so used to deciding on flavour first and Wattage later and a beast like this I'm sure would go well with an M or H Greenback-ish or Alnico Blue-ish thing depending.

Huh......I don't hear the Red Fang as bright, at all.......very well-rounded and even.

We'll see......I have a Rockytop 45/50 coming this week, and plan on trying it with a 1x12 with either a Red Fang or EMi Red, White and Blues. (12-65 style).

sorrry guys, should have been more specific:

it has KT66's in it and as far as musical styles go, i play a lot of Hendrix, SRV, Robin Trower, Rory Gallagher.

I hate to even admit this but I use a Warehouse Vintage 30 clone in a 1x12 open back Avatar cabinet with my Matchless Clubman. The Clubman basically is a Marshall/Vox amp; I get great results with this setup and the speaker can take the abuse.

One thing to consider is what happens when you turn your amp up and really push the speaker. I have noticed that a lot of speakers reach a point where they stop getting louder and just start to compress, the V30 clone doesn't seem to do this plus the super annoying hi mid spike has been eliminated.

For $45 plus shipping it's probably the most cost effective solution available plus it doesn't sound like a $45 speaker...far from it.

Matchless amps were designed to be used with V30's and G12H's, IIRC, with the guys doing an acetone treatment to the doping to make them sound more broken in. So I'm not surprised to hear the WGS V30 clone works with it at all.

I have a Warehouse V30 loaded 1x12 that I've used with my 50-watt marshall(like) amp, and I was very satisified with the results. I normally use 2x12 closed back cab, but will go to 1x12 for smaller gigs. Regarding the matchless-V30 pairing, I have a spitfire clone and the ONLY speaker that I like in it is a celestion V30.
