2012 Danelectro modified factory spec 1959 reissue?

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the new 2012 Korean-made versions of this guitar?

All the reviews I see for these are for the Chinese ones from a few years back, and those reviews seems to be either extremely positive or extremely negative.

I'm just wondering if the Korean made versions are an improvement quality-wise.

Well, I ended up buying one of these new Danelectros last after finding a new one locally. I have to say it's an awesome sounding guitar! I did some recording with it last week through a 65 Bassman and it sounded incredible.
But when I started changing strings on it last week I ran into a bit of a problem.
These guitars have the Leo Quan style bridge which is lowered in a routed body cavity. When I cut off the old strings I expected the bridge to come right off of the bridge studs, but it wouldn't slide back at all. I looked for other ways the bridge was attached and couldn't find any. I finally had to unscrew the bridge studs and raise the bridge out of the cavity to get the old strings out and put the new ones in. Even when it was raised above the cavity it only slid back about a quarter inch-just enough to get the balls of the old strings out of the front of the routing.
The problem with this besides it being a pain is that it would change your set up everytime you changed strings and it's a big hassle. There has to be some sort of trick to this.
My guitar has the default factory setup and as you can see in this photo it's very tight in the front of the routing.
Is my bridge farther towards the neck than it should be? It seems like if it was back a bit you could slide strings in without raising the bridge. Any idea how this bridge is locked onto the studs?
Any advice from fellow Danelectro owners would be appreciated!

I ended picking one after finding one locally. The quality on these are WAY better that the Chinese ones and the original Korean run from back in the late 90s. The strap buttons are metal screwed in units. The originals were just plastic pieces that were glued into the body before. The pickups sound great and are not weak. ..... Think hot wind Tele pickups.

As far as the wraptail bridge, don't let it discourage you.
Yes, you have to unscrew the studs to get the bridge and strings off, but the set screws that adjust the forward / back motion of the bridge on either side don't change. The only thing is when you put the new strings on and screw the studs back in, you have to adjust the overall height at the bridge by simply adjust the studs higher or lower to achieve you preferred string height off the fretboard. Not that big of a deal, really.

The fit and finish is very nice., and it stays in tune and intonates perfectly. The textured tape binding on the sides looks like what was on the vintage Danos back in the day. I am pleased.

If you've been wanting a black 59DC like Jimmy's that's actually a nice guitar.. Get it now before they discontinue them.
