I have noticed a few online stores have some 2013 Historical Collection Les Paul's at close out pricing, along with a few 2014's.

Any opinion on whether there are significant differences in the Gibson Historical Collection guitars manufactured in one of these years versus the other?

Some good info on lespaulforum.com about this topic.

That said, extreme historical detail are the differences - the variations from guitar to guitar would be my deciding factor as a player.

Not really in my experience. Both were great years for Historics, at least the examples I've played. The R8's had slightly thinner necks that are more comfortable for me. The Custombuckers are superb too.

I have a 2013 R8 lemon burst with a really nice figured top. The neck is divine and it plays like a dream. It's my first historic and it is an awesome guitar.

I had a 2011 R8 and gave it back to Gibson to change for QA issues.
They did and sent me a R8 2013. The guitar is lighter. The paint is more period correct.
It also doesn't have the truss rod condom on it.
Don't know if this plays a large role, but the 2013 is by far a better instrument than the 2011.
Oh also they got the neck shape down better on the 2013 models. More of a C than a D on the 2011.

My 2013 R8 is seriously one of the best instruments I have played. I can see why they are $4k

I have a 2013 and a 2014. Both are fantastic guitars. No practical difference.

Both are very nice. You will have to put them in your hands and see what works best for you.

2014 fretboards were glued using hide glue. Only difference I believe between 2013/2014.

Not sure that was ever verified, or just a rumor.

Would Andertons post it to their listings if it was just a rumor? I don't know...

    http://www.andertons.co.uk/solid-bo...op-1959-les-paul-reissue-gloss-in-sunrise.asp

"While the 2013 Gibson Custom Shop Reissue only used Hide glue in the Neck Joint, the 2014 model uses Hide glue in the Neck Joint, the Fretboard and the Nut, which is the way all Les Pauls were made in 1959."
