It's been a good year for me, with a soft market allowing me to pick up some vintage pieces at pretty decent prices. I've actually sold everything else and kept these three pieces which I recently picked up. I figure if I can't get it done with these, then clearly I have bigger problems!

1966 Princeton Reverb (sold all other amps after plugging into this)

1963 Jazzmaster, all original with original case - purchased from the same owner of the Princeton Reverb, what a pair!

1969 Gibson ES-335 - 335s are my favourite guitars and when I found this player grade guitar at a great price in need of love , I couldn't resist. Final purchase of 2017 and I've resolved to be content with what I have in 2018...

What vintage purchases have you made in 2017 so far?

I picked up a '61 Tremolux and a '65 Showman. Don't actively play either of them much, but I like having them. Both are great amps. Still sorting through the 'why' those purchases... both were pretty reasonable deals, but still...

‘73 Fender Princeton Reverb and a ‘65 Gretsch 6161. Funny because I sold my 1960 Ampeg Mercury 12 last year and was planning on sticking to modern amps from here on out.

It's been a bumper year for me - a few unexpected financial windfalls and some good deals coming along combined to make me a very happy boy. There were three Gibsons - an '81 Victory, '65 ES355 and '69 Byrdland - a bamboo yellow '67 Gretsch Rally, and a Selmer amp. Adding up what they cost in my head makes me feel a little bit sick, but it's only money and most of these were things I'd wanted for a long time.

I've already shared all my purchases on here except the last one, which was a near mint '63-'65 era Selmer Little Giant. I've always had a soft spot for Selmer amps - in the 90s every second hand junk shop in the UK armed to have a bunch of the Treble & Bass 50w heads stacked up in the corner for £50-£75 and I went through several of them, replacing them whenever the valves went! But the best Selmers were the ones with the silver crocskin finishes and they were rather more pricey. I'd been getting a bit fed up with my front room Yamaha amp and was vaguely looking for a cool looking valve amp to replace it, so couldn't resist this one when it came up. It's a 4 watt, 6" speaker affair loosely modelled on a 50s Champ.

Here it is with another of this year's purchases, my '65 ES355. I've probably banged on more than enough about it but hey, always room for another photo, right?

1957 Les Paul TV Junior. I also got a 1999 Gibson Les Paul R6 at the same time. But it isn't old enough to put in here.

Wow that 355 is making me question if I really can be satisfied with what I have for 2018 o_O

I think more pics are in order...

I got a 1970 Stratocaster. All original. 4 bolt. All the hangtags and even the original receipt of purchase. It did need a refret so I did have it done.

I think any 335 fan should really aim to have the set - 335, 345, 355 and 330! 340s, 347s etc optional but encouraged... 355s have always been my favourites though.

Here's a shot of it with the '69 Byrdland also from this year.

I've had some fun guitar-safari-ing it this year. After several purchases and selling off others this is the "keeper" haul thus far

Just this sweet ‘66 Pelham Blue Melody Maker, after a bit of a binge in 2015-2016. I love the narrow neck and action.

The wood sounds so good you almost want to upgrade the hardware, but have never done that to an old guitar. :D

Thanks! It's become a bit of a hobby - my real passion with photography is wildlife but I've kind of done most of the local stuff to the point of being bored of it now, so I've started trying to take good photos of my guitars instead. Anyway, it's a bit easier creeping up on a Gibson than it is the average rare animal!
