I believe it. It gets very cold in the interior. I've encountered the same in Kotzebue, McGrath, etc. but Anchorage is comparatively very mild :)

Up to a point. Once the wind chills get below -50 (and definitely to -60/-70) you'd better pay attention. Your life may depend on that "hype" and "drama". It rarely happens around here, but when I was working in Alaska, up on the Slope and the Interior, those who ignored the hype and drama didn't last very long. Well, they didn't last very long intact, that's for sure.

Anywhere closer to the southern/southeastern waters and the Japan current doesn't get the cold that the northwest coast, North Slope and Interior gets. You can try to explain how cold that is, but until you actually experience it, it's hard to totally understand.

I've used an outhouse when the air temp was -25. Which puts into perspective the shoveling I had to do this morning when it was a balmy -7.

Now you're talking cold. That's dress right or die weather if there is wind.

    Two things -

    1) just got a text from one of the guys I work for: it's -39 where he is right now, and how tied up am I?

My response: I will not be joining his team this month. It's a balmy 44F here.

    2) Hmmm...

Outlaw: thanks for the heads-up: it's quite a relief to see even Old Man Winter can't tell the difference between weather and climate.

It quite excuses the average ignert, I feel.

Moving at Christmas in the Midwest = brilliant planning

It put it in a spoiler tag for those at work. Maybe you should remove it from your post, so the mods doesn't ban your ass instead. :D
