Just pulled the trigger on one of these. Sounds like a decent back up guitar for only $299 & free shipping.

Anyone have any experience with these or similar ASAT models? Should I expect it to need a fret dress or pickup change?

i've had USA ASATs in the past that were stellar with no shortcomings, other that their owner has incurable GAS. I've played several assorted Tributes and currently have a Tribute Comanche that has terrific fret work...wouldn't anticipate the ASAT Delxue Tribute you ordered would be different? Can't say about the pickups because the HB's aren't standard US like they are on other Tributes (MFD's, Z coils etc...)

Cool. Thanks for the input!

What a great deal, even if you find you need some small work done. That is very tempting! Keep us posted.

Saw that this morning, thought about it for a minute. Good price, but my eyes are on a Les Paul.

If that was a lefty, I'd be ALL over it.

People really don't realize how incredible G&L guitars are. That's an absolute steal.

Wow that really is a stupid deal! New G&L made of mahogany! If I had any money Id buy that in an instant! Kind of mad I dont. hah

Black and double bound, its reminding me a lot of me tele, but with humbuckers.

It's a Tribute, so "absolute steal" might be a little over the top, but it is a good deal.

I just bought a Tribute Legacy off CL last weekend, for a VERY good deal. I would keep it for a backup for my strat, but the neck is way too thin for my hand. Sounds and plays great, otherwise, though. I would imagine that ASAT is as good a new guitar as you'll find for $300.

Mine came today (a day early, go figure)!

Its a damn fine guitar. Workmanship is quite good. smooth paint, smooth neck, frets look good. Plays quite nice, although it seems too slinky to me (9s?). The neck pickup was comically close to the strings. There is the slightest nick on the top of the headstock which I dont think happened in shipping but its no big deal at all.

Plugged in, its quite beefly, with decently warm cleans. The splits are not bad, I dont think it will confuse anyone that its a Broadcaster or anything but it does have a nice twang factor for sure. Overdriven, its a very solid , if not overly complex rock N roll tone. It seems to do best at low to medium overdrive. It has a nice bit of snap to the notes, and is quite clear.

Ill probably swap the pups out, maybe some white-ish (to match the binding) pup rings?
Overall for $299 shipped it really is a "stupid" good deal! Ive never played a better guitar for anything CLOSE to that price for sure!

Wish I had/Glad I didn't see this earlier.

Would've been hard not to pull the trigger!

It's saving grace to me is that I hate black guitars. My inner OCD hates the fingerprints!

I'm still mad I wasn't able to snag the $350 tribute special tobacco burst. MF finally has them back in stock for $499 again.

For anyone wanting one of these, they will remain $299 for a little while. They actually have them in their new catalog for the $299 price. (back page)

I got mine yesterday! I literally opened the box and the guitar was just about perfectly in tune.

First impressions:
-Great guitar for the money
-Nice finish, frets, attention to detail
-Setup is pretty decent. Has .9's, so I will put some .10's on it today
-The humbuckers are the weak point of the guitar.
-The coil splitting is also kind of weak

I ran it through my Orange TH30 head and Orange 2x12 cab w/ V30. I thought the pickups sounded a bit better through a high gain channel than they did through a clean channel. I also had the chance to play it on some jazz/big band tunes through a Peavey Ecoustic SS amp and thought the neck pickup sounded pretty nice with the tone knob rolled all the way back.

So, what kind of humbuckers would you guys recommend for upgrading this guitar?

Got mine yesterday. I have a bunch of USA ASATs and I tell you, they have very very little if anything on this one. Mine was set up perfectly out of the box, not a nick on it, and almost perfectly in tune as well. I hold G&L in very high regard, but this is my first Tribute. For the money I couldn't stop myself. It's absolutely a ridiculously good guitar for that kind of price or anything close to it. I played mine last night through every kind of amp and effect and tone configuration i could, and I don't see or hear any flaws or anything it can't do really well. I do agree with above that it seems to thrive in a rock distortion type thing, but I played everything across the board and I never once was even slightly disappointed. I love the neck as well, and I will have to play it more but as of now I certainly don't see a need to swap the pickups.

Holy smokes fellas, get one!
