This would be fine with two Vintage 30's (which are 60 watts each) or something like that. I did it for years. Conversely, you could pull the two inside or outside tubes cut the head impedance in half and run it at 50 watts (done that too for years).

Only a bad idea if the speakers arent rated for a 100 + watts. Recently put G12K-100's in my 2x12. Great sounding speakers and the cab is now rated at 200 watts.
If you use the EV12L Classic it would be rated at 400 watts!
Obviously Blues,Greenbacks or G12H-30's would be a bad idea... Bob

After a lot of searching and playing I picked the Bogner Oversized 2x12. It's the best cab out there for me. I got it loaded with Classic 80's because I have so many vintage 30's. Right now I'm using it with a CAA OD100 SE+ and it's huge. Sounds better than any other 2x12 out there and better than most 4x12's. I plan on putting one V30 in there in the future, but it sounds so amazing right now. I'll have this cab for the rest of my life.

I'm running my Hot Cat 100R into a semi open back Vintone cab with
1 NOS JBL K-120 AlNiCo and 1 original EVM 12L.

    HUGE sounding system!

Do you self a favor and check out Mills Acoustics Cabinets. I just received their 2x12 with V30s to pair with my Modena 60. It is a monster, loud, punchy, and great clarity. And it looks killer!

I'm another 2x12 User. I have a LOPO Convertible. Its a little small for my current amp, Randall RM100M, haha about an inch or 2 on each side so my amp looks a little stupid. The cab has a ton of punch, I have Celestion G12T-75s in it!

Couple of Celestion Classic 80s would also work.

so 2 vintage 30's would work?

how do they sound compared to the 4x12 i have now? it is the marshall hand wired angled cab. http://www.ballewsmusic.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=mars1960AHW

    with G12H30 speakers.

i'm actually planning on getting an avatar cab, they have a bunch of speaker options, but i am not sure what exactly would be best for my needs http://www.avatarspeakers.com/g212h.htm

they have a list of these speakers to choose from, at the basic price point Mix any Celestion Vintage 30s, Greenback's, G12T75s, G12H30s,Classic Lead 80's, Hellatone 30s , Hellatone 60s

can someone give me a run down of each speaker and tell me how they would sound? also can someone give me the best combination of speakers that would work for a 100 watt tube amp?

Yes Vintage 30s would work. But they have alot of midrange so if you do not like that they may not bee good for you.. Do you need something that will work with high gain or not so much?

well i will be getting a marshall jvm. and that has a lot of gain on it.

but i need something that will work for a wide range of things. from clean to heavy gain. sort of like a balance.

Well Ive found a real sleeper IMO in the Celestion line up-the G12K-100.
Well balanced and high power handling. I got them from Avatar. I wonder if they are an option?

I would suggest some G12-65 or Private Jacks.

I would Lean a little more towards the G12-65 becaseu it has a higher power rating.
