    Hi,

I am considering 4 small body cutaways:

    Bourgeois OMC Cutaway
    Collings OM2H Cutaway
    Santa Cruz OM Cutaway
    Santa Cruz Model H Cutaway

I am curious to hear perspectives on sonic differences, build and feel. I am considering using this mostly for solo jazz chord melody. I play both with a flat pick and with my fingers.

    Thanks,

    Bob

There is nothing wrong with any of the guitars that you are considering. I have played all those guitars (except some didn't have the cutaway) and they were all fine. Pick the one that speaks to you the most, buy it and don't look back.

The only H cutaway I've played had a shallower body, and I didn't like as much as the other H models I've played, with the H-13 being my favorite. So if you're talking a full body depth H, I will always vote for a smaller body guitar as long as it's loud enough. And the deep body Hs I've played have been at least OM loud. There are enough OMs in the world. Certainly enough to never buy a new one.

I think the Santa Cruz OM's sound better to my ears than the Bourgeois and Collings. I haven't played the H models at all but I've heard good things.

As a fingerpicker primarily myself, I agree. If it was for comping, and heavier punchy jazz rhythm work, I'd be all over the Collings for that. Bourgeois? Great guitar I'd pick up if I found a bargain.

I hear "good things" from the one less than three feet away from me.
