I remember that post and amp Allyn, I've always wanted a 4 EL34 wreck!
Great to hear he's still enjoying it!

Yup, the world needs a 100w Komet that will bowl you over like the planet Jupiter. Hey, that might be a good name for the amp ;).

I agree. I had one and to this day, it is the loudest amp I have ever owned. I can't imagine needing more power. I rarely took it past 1:00.

Amp is done. Not a 100W Concorde or a high power Songwriter. I decided to start from scratch and just build what I would want myself.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is the best amp I've ever played. Period. Vintage or new. Just stupid good. It ain't braggin' if it's true.

    Runs two KT88s, cathode biased.

    Hogy, Komet Amplification.

Probably early to ask Hogy, but is this possibly a model that you would be selling at some point?

Excellent can't wait. Is this anything like the K80 you used to make?

No, it's very different. The output transformer on this is twice the size of the K80s. Bottom end is huge and grand piano like.

The new amp also has no traditional tone stack. I have really come to prefer designs without tone stacks. The Constellation, K19 and Songwriter don't have tone stacks, either.

There is incredible harmonic content and chime. I love EL84s, and the KT88 is very much related, tonally, but with that big horsepower behind it.

This amp can get pretty loud, but even at low volume, it has a cinemascope like, huge tone.

I'm in love, can you tell?

Why do I keep coming back to this thread? Am I an idiot, or do I just hate money and look for ways to get rid of it? I know practically nothing about this amp and am already GASing for it based the Komet name and hogy's description. Evil man. ;)

It'll be a while before this amp is in production, but it will be.

sounds like Holger is building another great amp. I had 2 Connies and really miss them. They were stripped down supremely toneful machines.

Sounds like this new amp will be the same. I have to do a sell off for a big trip laer rhis year. Sounds like I need to sell a little more off to get this amp

While this new amp is single channel only, you can get a general idea of the tonality if you imagine the offspring of a Constellation and a Marshall Major. Best "Wind Cries Mary" opening chords I've heard to date. Better than my AC100, the prior benchmark.

Gain levels range from Songwriter clean to Constellation wound up.

Pair of KT88's, giant transformers, and sounds like a grand piano!
Reminds me of Sayce's mother amps Tommy built I had been considering...think I'll wait and see what Hogy comes up with :)
