    Yup.
They all played and we're damn good.

Even a band like The Osmond's could play damn good.

Meh. I can't find the author's age, but I suspect she was at the most 2 years old when this happened.

Grew up in Chicago suburbs and my family is from the South Side. I thought Steve Dahl was a talentless buffoon and the whole event was a travesty and a disaster. My opinions haven’t changed.

I was a rocker back then and I remember thinking that the people who were so threatened by disco that they had to protest it had no faith in rock ‘n roll. If they really believed rock was so much better than disco why freak out?

Eventually rock consumed disco and it became New Wave dance music - Billy Idol, Duran Duran, New Order etc. But disco won in the end. Pop music today owes much more to Donna Summer and Madonna than the Beatles and Stones.

What's funny is I opened the thread this morning to post two related thoughts. The first was that disco never really died. The second was that it seemed kind of ironic given all that angry energy expended to "destroy" it in Chicago that only a few years later that city gave birth to one of the most profoundly influential underground music scenes of the 80s with the largely disco influenced House scene.

It is funny how disco has endured after all that drama, and it's demise, but today many love the music and it's obviously very influential.

"Pride" is a particularly interesting word to use in a discussion of disco given that music's pronounced relationship to the gay community, but I don't think you'll find disco nearly so white artist dominated if you start digging into disco as a form of dance music. That is, when it comes to black performers and disco, the list doesn't stop at the justly revered Ms. Summer.

Could be bro, i paid very little attention to the disco movement with my maximum exposure being from aunt Beth, who brought her boom box to the reunion with only one tape that played almost constantly, Donna Summer.

If you're going to go with one disco artist, you could do worse than Donna Summer.
