Who sells a great sounding kit?
As Carl said above. Get your components from Valve Storm. Follow the Metro instructions. And, take your time.
And spring for good iron
I've built and been very happy with kits from Valvestorm and Triode Electronics. I built a jtm45 from Valvestorm and a jtm50 from Triode.
Edit: The Triode comes with ClassicTone iron and I used a ClassicTone PT and the Metro-Spec Heyboer OT with the Valvestorm jtm45 build. Both are exceptionally great amps!
I see BYOC sells a kit at a nice price. They use classic tone transformers and Tunsol tubes. Worth a look. If it were me I'd get a Ceriatone, what a deal!
I think the BYOC kits are just jtm45 based and the 1974 18watt TMB variant.
Yeah, I got all excited that somebody else had a JMP50 kit... Nope, just JTM45 in that wattage range. Kinda frustrating because everybody seems to have a JTM45 and a 1959. The 1987 gets ignored.
Oh man, I need another project like I need a hole in my head, but I'm going to do something like this soon. Just can't decide which model to build. I love my 1959SLP RI and 1987XL. What else is there?
Build yourself a 2203 or 2204 and you'll have yourself the holy trinity of Marshalls.
Gorgeous work right there. Well done.
Seriously though, look at Triode. After building a Triode kit and a Valvestorm kit I'm torn which to go to for my next build.
I went with the Valvestorm 50 watt parts. Thank you. So, now about the iron. What would you recommend??????
I'm planning on going with Merren when I do this.
I've used Classictone with several amps and been very happy but I really like the Metro Spec Heyboer iron I used in my Valvestorm JTM45 build.
Merren all the way. My RJS built JMP50 rips! All Merren iron in it. Worth the dough. Bigtime.....
