Ok guys. What do you think looks best on '57-ish Gibson Les Paul. Black, Cream or Zebra PAF's? I Googled some pictures and they all look fabulous.

I don't think it matters if they sound good to you.

    Covered nickel.
But if they're going to be exposed--zebras all the way!

My name came up for some Holmes pickups so I gotta choose the specs. Color, cover, number of wires etc. I'm going to get covers but just in case I want to take off the covers in the future, I thought I should put some thought into the color too. Plus I thought it would be an interesting conversation. Another question I have is whether cream or zebra PAF's were even ever seen/used in 1957?

If you can get cream that's a good match with the binding and the PU selector switch stuff, cream is good, but I've seen plenty of clashing plastic cream/white stuff.
I'd rather have the contrast than the clash around the body, and have the PU's hook up with the headstock color personally.
Also agree covered is better, and overall aesthetically P90's on a Goldtop probably look better than humbuckers.

Zebra possibly worst of all if you wind up with the wrong shade of cream.
Goldtop LP's are beautiful guitars no matter what the hardware color scheme is, but the less schizophrenic the better IMHO.

Absolutely not. They cream bobbins didn't come until later. '59, I'm almost certain. And there are more '59 bursts with double creams now than were made in '59. Because those double creams were taken out of other guitars.

2 conductor 450/455 set with covers. They sound great.

I have one black and one zebra, with covers (by another winder), on my R7 Stinger. They have never been off in 13 years.
