I've been playing it a lot, did some tube rolling in V2 today since I have a stash of 12AX7's around, it's a toss up between the old Telefunken and Mullard.
I have some really nice RCA 6V6's in it from around 1951, great tubes.
I ordered a tungsol rectifier and some more tubes for V1 and V2 today.
It can, I use the bright input 1, dime the tone and set the volume around 3 or 4, that works well.
NOS glass helps remove some of the mud too.
Need to see your Nocaster with your 5E3.
That is the next pic, I take these in the morning, when the light in the room is right.
The Harvard is the cleaner Tweed.
This is not helping my Tweed GAS!
I am currently deliberating between getting a 63 Deluxe Brownface clone which will be available in 2-3 months or waiting 6+ months until the same guys build a 5e3. I don't think I can wait that long
That is what I meant, I'm still getting up to speed on these tweeds.
It's not meant to!!!!!
It's just more fuel to fire! Now if we just had some clips of this amp with those beauty Gibsons!
This pic warms my heart
Ask, and ye shall receive, taken about 10 minutes ago.
Please don't call the relic police on me!
One more, because it sounds SO friggin good through the Clark!
Oh man.... one of my biggest gear regrets is selling my Clark Beaufort. Pretty sure I'll get one again at some point.
Maybe it's just me but I feel like there aren't a lot of guys making good 5E3s right now? I've been out of the loop for a while but I only know of Clark and Victoria maybe? Does Fender make a reissue? I need to start researching that. I really don't want to pay a fortune for one if I end up going that route.
I contacted this guy for some work on a DRRI since he is local to me. I just ended up fixing a rattling transformer on my own. I was going to have him bias the amp also.
But man I drool over his blackface beaufort reverb every day. I wonder if he'd let me play any showroom models he has laying around if I stopped by one day.
Outta the loop yet you think no one makes a good 5E3 yep maybe start with a search here at TGP regarding 5E3's.
I love mine and would never part with it. The problem is that it gives this tactile thing back to your ear and when I try to like Katanas and other modelers, they can't even come close. Crap, I'm spoiled.
@zygoat. Clark, Vicky are not the only ones making 5E3's. Marsh, Mission, Speedster, Speed Shop, Richter, Tungsten, Trinity, SDG...make amps, all good. Marsh, Boot Hill, Weber, Tube Depot, Trinity, triode, Mojotone...make kits and most may assemble...they are all good. It's a simple circuit anyone can make it, there's no magic dust. PT voltage/current(voltage corrected)and OT tranny's winds grade of metal may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, OT Primaries may vary from 6.6 to 8.5K, voltage levels differ, resister tolerances, type of resisters(introduce noise); metal film(less), metal oxide, carbon comp(most), tube choices, type of rectifiers, brand of tone caps, speaker choice...smooth cone or ribbed, small or large magnet, alnico or ceramic, small voice coil or large...every component affects tone and feel. Some manufacturers decide on a more raw dirtier tone compared to anothers tighter cleaner sound...yet they are all still 5E3's.
