I thought that this could be cool, but maybe it will be a bomb, who knows.

    The rules are simple:
    • You post the screen name (tagged, using the "@ + name" method) for a TGP member that you know IRL, outside of the online presence on TGP
    • You do not have to be best buds, or even bandmates, but you should have had some kind of real life experience involving each other (a face to face sale, attended a concert together, you are schoolmates, neighbors, etc.)
    • Make a short note about how you know each other IRL
    • Be cautious using the member's real name - this is not about doxing members, but if you are certain that they are cool with their real name being used online then use discretion
    • Family members do not count
    • Once you have been tagged, you reply to the post with the screen name + tag for another TGP member, and that person repeats the process
    • A TGP member can be repeated, but only once two other members are tagged and respond
    I'll start ....

    @boldaslove1977
We met through an amp sale, and then meeting Eric Johnson backstage at The Bitter End

    You're up, dude!

Sorry to pee on your cornflakes but I don't know anyone here IRL. :)

I strongly suspect that's true of most Brit members.

    :-(
Well Sam, here's hoping that one day during one of my UK trips we can remedy that

    In real life
Thread concept is well meaning but could probably inadvertently lead to doxing

Google "six degrees Kevin Bacon". It's metaphysics and stuff.

The whole idea of doxing presumes your online identity is one you would not want anyone IRL to know about. That’s bizarre to me and seems to simply provide cover for poor behavior. I do realize that there are legitimate reasons to hide one’s online identity because of things such as persecution and bigotry. But am I being naive in thinking the public outing of one’s real life identity on TGP would be no big deal? Are you that afraid your wife will find out you spent $2k on that guitar!?

Many of us have businesses or are employed, and given the general state of reactions to even good natured humor and the research one is able to do on almost anyone, I’m fine not broadcasting my real name and subsequent tie outs to whatever I’ve said, liked, posted, etc anywhere online without proper context. It’s just prudent nowadays IMO. YMMV

I think if you follow the general rules of the board, i.e. “don’t be a dick,” you shouldn’t have a problem. Unless I can get fired for not liking Boston’s doubletracked sound. :dunno

Nope, I don’t know anyone on TGP and I like to keep it that way. I keep my real and imaginary selves separate ;)

Although... I know someone IRL who has got to be a member as his gear is all TGP-approved :p

Thanks for the link, very informative. After finding out what it means, i remembered the last time i searched my name online; for a fee, someone can find out more about me than i know myself. Mind boggling (and wrong). I won't participate in anything that makes that info even more available to more people. I sincerely hope for a glitch that removes all these programs from www.

I’n pretty sure I do, but still the ability to be misquoted, or for a comment or even a like to be taken out of context is real.
