I came across a 6G6B for $1850...seems a bit steep to me, but I'm wondering what everyone else thinks. It's been retolexed at some point, I'm guessing at least 20 years ago since it still looks aged, and the speakers have been replaced with Webers. Everything else is claimed to be original. Is that a fair deal? Anything I should look out for if I check it out? Thanks!

If the board has all it's original caps and the transformers and pots are
all original, then it might be a reasonable deal .

At the same time with the amp and cab(?) being retolexed, that
has some impact on collector value, if that matters to you, at all

I just bought a '62 6G6-B head that has been recovered in black and had
ALL its original caps replaced in the 80's with black spragues, but it
has it's original trannies and a fresh filter cap job.

    It sounds . . . excellent .

I'm not a collector, so I don't need to seek out an original cab, and am
happy running mind thru an Avatar Premier Vintage cab w/ Cele Golds, as
well as other cabs I have.

If I were you I would just buy a head

If you find a head in good shape, you could add an Avatar traditional
cab w/ 2 H30s for a killer rig, well under that $1850 price point..

They seem to run from 1,300.00 to 2,000.00.Mine was about in the middle, and the cab was retolexed and the speakers are not original.
I would make shure the transformers are original, and the metal chassis has no holes drilled in it.
Also the original grill cloth should match the style(wheat with silver threads on mine).I put the reissue Tungsol 12ax7s ,and some Phillips 6L6s,in mine. This amp is quite versatile.

Yeah I'm definitely not much of a collector, but the matching cab is definitely appealing to me. These amps, certainly sound amazing though.

Agree - $1850 isn't out of line. As long as the trannies are original and everything else is in decent shape - it's pretty reasonable. Usually, pristine mint examples are in the $2500+ range.
