I found these at a flea market. Apart from what is easily seen in the photos, they are labelled "922-681 w. germany". They look pretty much untouched, but I have nothing with octal preamp tubes in which to try them.

    Does anyone know about these?

Ah! But you assume that the country of origin is correct! Often, tubes with that brand name which are marked as German and British are actually Russian. No, I haven't lost my mind, yet:)

During the cold war (not sure if most guys around here remember the cold war) we did not trade with the Soviet Union. Unscrupulous dealers in Western Europe would import Soviet tubes, print "safe" countries of origin on them, and sell them to the US.

That is almost definitely the case with the tubes in the photo.

So what are they used in?

I thought that might be the case. The guy had tons of similarly packaged tubes, though most didn't appear useful for guitar or audio. I bought these and some el509's, thinking I might build and extra beefy single ended amp.

Mostly audio equipment, but more recently in some esoteric guitar amps as well. Allesandro and Komet are a few who use them.
