If you own these 7 amps, you have > 95% of the world tones:
1. Fender tweed
2. Fender black face
3. Marshall plexi
4. Vox AC30
5. Mesa Boogie
6. Dumble clone
7. High Gain amp like a Bogner Estacy 101B or other

I bet someone will argue that you need fewer and maybe you can make all these sounds happen on fewer, but really these 7 will do just fine.

The Mesa Heartbreaker does 4 of those on the list. :)

There are at least 4 completely different Mesa lead tones:

Mark & derivatives, Rectifier, cascaded Tweed derivative, and Mark/plexi hybrid.

Probably a few more.

Jeez @DiPa you out to ignite the fumes of GAS?

I thought I wanted flexibility but found my tonal center to be Marshall based. I still have lust for the XTC, a Dual Rec and a Satellite Atom and play 'em for a year or so.

@DiPa What you aren't saying is that you have almost every model vintage Fender, Vox, Marshall.

Not just a singular example.

My amp hero.

And thinking back I haven't seen you share your guitar collection. I for one would love to know...........

I really would like to find a minty 1962-63ish AC30.

I am single (simple?) minded:

‘64 Deluxe Amp (BF)
‘65 Bandmaster
‘67 Vibrolux
‘68 Bassman

Also have a JBL affliction: D123 in the Deluxe, 1x12 D120, 1x15 E130

Based on the OP post/poast it would be to get "95% of the world(s) tones".

I appreciate the question.

I, personally, would also switch out #6 for a Fischer designed amp, and I really don't need a #7. "Mesa" these days is such a broad definition, I'm not sure where you're going (MKI, Rec, MKV?).

I live in the Tweed, BF, old Marshall and Vox world and "boost" from there.

I don't agree. No offense. I pick an amp for a volume requirement (the right tool for the job, much like the correct hammer for framing vs. cabinet work) rather than tonal variations. I can get the tonal variations out of my hands or other tools. Sometimes you need a 10W amp, an 18W amp, a 33W amp, a 50W amp or a 100W amp, etc.. I readily accept that.

What I would LIKE to have:

1. Tweed Bassman or Bandmaster
2. Tone King Imperial (this is essentially a BlackFace slot, but the imperial does it SOO much better)
3. Small Tweed - I'm partial to the Harvard, but a Deluxe would be nice too.
4. AC-30
5. JTM-45
6. Trainwreck
7. Plexi
