    Here's the gear:

    Traynor YBA1 (bassman/JTM45 like sound)

    Guitars with humbuckers and single-coils.

I want my OD to sound AC/DC like, and my cleans to sound like Hendrix. I play medium-gain most of the time.

This would be for a 2x12 cab with a removable back panel.

Scumbacks and creambacks are obvious choices. They sound awesome, so I may well go in that direction, but the budget is tight so I am seriously considering:

    1) WGS Invader
    2) Eminence Legend GB12
    3) another model from the Eminence Red Coat series?

These have all been out for awhile, so I would especially love to hear from people who've compared the budget speakers.

    Thanks!

If you need to save the dough, the eminence private jack isn't bad.
    It's very 'greenback' like.
I'm a scumback junky myself, but those are decent.
WGS ET65 as well for a lower buck speaker.

But IMO do it once. and go for the top level one. Never buy again.

I really dig WGS speakers. Green Beret and/or Reaper for lower power, or Invader and Reaper HP for higher power. I have Scumbacks as well as the above and I honestly don't prefer one over the other in most applications.

I've had great luck with a few speakers from the eminence redcoat line.

That's really encouraging. What type of music do you play bbaug14? I was actually thinking of possibly pairing the Invader with the Reaper HP if I go that route.

I hear you. That's what's making the decision that much harder.

I need something more high-powered, which is why the Invader would be an option from WGS.

I had some Celestion G12k100 speakers in my Avatar cab and I grew to dislike their tone. I had an old cheapy Marshall cabinet that I think was made for the valvestate series, an MG series maybe? A friend gave me this cab about 12 years ago. I see those cabs selling for a song at used guitar shops. Anyway, I put those speakers in my Avatar cab and was totally blown away. They sound way better than the stock speakers in a 1960. They sound very much like a poor man's vintage 30.

With my Traynor I use a Dean Markley 4 x 12" with custom Eminence speakers that were voiced to be a "creamy Celestion sound" or a 1 X 12" with an EVM 12L. I really like the EV, but I'm not going for the same tones as you are. I use an outboard reverb unit patched between the channels and go for more of a Fender sort of tone.

Scumbacks are nice. I prefered WGS veteran 30's and ET65's over m75's for my uses though. If you meant to imply that WGS isn't on the level of scumback I would respectfully disagree.

I just put a WGS Invader in a Kustom Defender V50 combo. It has a nice bark without sounding strident or boxy. Clean is full with slightly boosted mids. The sound samples on their site are pretty accurate to what I'm hearing.

I play a pretty wide range of classic rock and rock. I play a Wizard MCII and a JMP. Both sound awesome through the Invader / Reaper HP combo. If you like classic rock tones with a Les Paul and Marshall style amp, you won't be disappointed.

If you get a Weber Legacy you can choose whatever specs you want based on the tones you want- the magnet size, wattage, and cone type. I got the 30oz magnet, 65 watter, 55hz cone. It's really a cross between a 55hz G12h30 and a 65w Creamback.

I really like the Celestion CL80's that are in my THD 2x12. They are not too colored so they will do all the music you mentioned.

The Scumback 65 waters are great also.

Just wanted to let you know that the scumback website has their speakers on sale at the moment. I have been thinking about picking up a couple for my 2x12 Marshall combo. I just haven't decided which model yet. I'm thinking one of the H75 series.

The WGS speakers have really impressed me. I played through a friens Two Rock, and there ET-65 was wonderfull. I have a Reeves custom 12 with the Reaper HP, and also have the Blackhawk HP. It seems like every one I try is just better then the last!
