Saw the trailer. I can't get over the fact that "Mick Mars" (Iwan Rheon) is playing an Epiphone Les Paul Custom in most of the shots. I mean, there are more important things to get hung up on regarding a movie but still it bums me out. Like, they couldn't afford a generic black Gibson Les Paul Custom, any year, whatever?????

I'm another class of '89 - I remember listening to Shout at the Devil on vinyl when it came out in '83 and going, "whoa, this is pretty awesome!"

For having the best hair ever in Rock n roll, “Nikki”’s hair is pretty lacking in the trailer.

I bought it on cassette and listened to it for a few weeks, but then I was introduced to this:

In quick succession, and it was more Motley Who? from then on.

Not sure why the trailer hasn't been posted yet, so...

Definitely a huge fan of that awesome era, so I will check this out. So many great guitar players during this time. You still had great 70's music/acts touring, plus all of the 80's metal.
Fun time to be a teenager!

I figured the "71" corresponded to your birth year. I was born in November, so I had to wait to start school because of the cutoff for the state where I started elementary school.

I think the producers of this project were thinking more about the everything else over guitar, wider audience than say a Racer X biopic.

    Not a good scene.

I bet that’s not in the movie.

Featuring wild antics like that time Paul Gilbert practiced in his room at GIT for 12 hours straight or that other time he practiced in his room for 12 hours straight.

A friend of mine was at GIT the same time as Gilbert and said he would often see him on his front porch doing picking exercises so that could be written in to make things a little more interesting.:p

nu-metal era kid checking in.... although I remember "grunge" as the first music other than my parents that interested me. An older neighbor kid had a discman with the "Rusty Cage" single and I'd go over there and listen to that on repeat as long as he'd let me.

From what I remember reading, I think Motley Crue produced this movie and were heavily involved. To me Motley Crue is a greatest hits band..... I could probably put together a 10-12 song playlist by them that I'd like. I will definitely get around to watching the Dirt though. I wonder if they will have someone playing Ozzy (the ant story), Slash and Steven Adler (Kickstart My Heart story), Pam Anderson (honking the boat horn story), etc.... From the stories that pop up Vince Neil and Tommy Lee still seem like wrecks. Nikki Sixx actually seems pretty cool... albeit a little bit of someone who tries hard to maintain an image. I really enjoyed his Sixx Sense podcast though.

You know...I used to think these kind of stories were really cool. Now that I'm a father of 2 daughters, these kind of stories repulse me.

Makes sense in the context. It’s not a movie made specifically targeting 80’s rock fans.

It’s a movie about the excess of a successful 80’s band - the “everything else” you mention, targeting a general audience.

Much in the way Bohemian Rhapsody wasn’t just a movie made for Queen fans.
