    Hi Folks -

I think there are two 'levels' of the old Roland Delay rack units - SD-2000, and maybe SDE-2000?

Can anyone comment on which is more desireable, and why? I saw one for sale for $150 last weekend from an unadvertised private party and I can't remember which one I liked back in the '80's. The one I saw is the SDE-2000.

    Thanks in advance, Dana O.

Thanks - anyone else? Is the SDE series better than the SD series?

    Thanks again, Dana O.

    There's no SD series.

    There's the SDE-1000, the SDE-2500, and the SDE-3000.

Thanks MrSage - I thought I remembered that there were two 'series' of those old Roland delays.

This one's an SDE-2000, and they want $150 for it. Is that about right?

    Thanks in advance, Dana O.

I have an SDE1000 and I won't part with it. I'm not sure what the differences in models is but i'd pay $100-$150 fro one.

My rule of thumb is to drop the final '0' from the model number and there's a decent price. I've had a couple of SDE-1000s and never paid more than $125 for them. Definitely worth that, easily. Absolutely kills the Korg SDD-1000 in terms of features, and nearly matches the Korg SDD-2000 overall.

The Roland SDE-2500 is pretty comparable to the Korg SDD-3000 (the famous "Edge" unit), but the Roland generally goes for one-half to one-third the price of the Korg. I'd look to pay around $250 for the Roland, but have seen them fetch anywhere up to $350 when the market is hot.

The Roland SDE-2500 has the same +4dB boost that the Korg SDD-3000 has, but the Roland also has midi control, which the Korg is lacking. Haven't A/B compared them for sound quality, but the Roland beats the Korg in features, and you can totally cop the sound of the Korg by investing in a Triad pedal, made by Psionic Audio.

Not sure about the SDE-2000...I haven't heard much about those. Easily worth $150, though!
