What are you guys using for 80's metal distortion?
LA Guns, Motley Crue, Skid Row, etc...

I'm thinking of going with the Wampler Plextortion or Sovereign, or maybe the Weehbo JMP Drive.

Will be using it into my Laney L5T Lionheart.

I loved the crunch box for this...much better than the Rat's I've owned for this sound oddly enough since many of those bands used the Rat.

I use my amp crunch channel goosed with an SD-1 for that 80's goodness.

Weehbo JVM Drive kills in this application. My go-to '80s hair metal pedal. I've tried a bunch, too, and nothing's dethroned it.

Would love to try an Amptweaker BigRock Pro/TightMetal Pro.

    Honorable mention: Emma Reezafratzitz.

If you want to get really retro, pick up an ADA MP-1 preamp. Absolutely 80s in a box ... from the 80s. They really want a dedicated power amp, though, to sound best.

I should say that I'm talking about all of those pedals into a clean amp. An SD-1/TS into an already dirty channel (pref. JCM 800) is how they did it back in the day.

Early Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret with the "Rock/RAWK!" switch did it for me.

Rat. Riot. SD-1 and DS-1 into pushed amps.

I liked the Catalinbread older DLS like what a user said above too. The newer DLS and Wampler/Weehbo stuff are too modern sounding personally..

I replaced my RAT with a mxr superbadass distortion and it works great for that stuff. I actually have to stop myself from playing like a hair farmer when I have it on.

You could try the stuff they used then that can still be had for good prices like a Rat, DS-1, SD-1, Distortion Plus or Tube Screamer!
