the 90s had some cool stuff from an R&B standpoint. What did you like from that era?
Great post! Agreed!
D'Angelo was king.
Awesome post. I'm a drooling En Vogue and Tony! Toni! Tone! fan, also love Babyface, Missy Elliot, BBD, and numerous others. But here's my favorite single from the era, shivers :
Then there's this :
"Gettin' paid is a forte."
And I can't omit this, the very very first hit single from the hand of Timbaland :
I gotta say, they still got it going on. I don't even care if Max has gained a little weight.
^ heck yes. Also, "Don't Let Go" is a jam that gets me all tied up in knots
"If I could wear your clothes, I'd pretend I was you -- and lose control"
It's easy to forget how radical these sounded 20 years ago, bangin',
Oh yeah, how about this :
<-- it's the real
<-- with the great Michael Landau on guitar!
^ I remember the day I first heard that song, on Nickelodeon's "The Nick Hit List," I was struck dumb in amazement
"See if this one moves you."
That song is pretty much the definition of the perfect R&B Ballad.
Tony! Toni! Toné!
This one was and still is a big one for me--groundbreaking. I'd say for me this was the best of the 90s R&B tracks:
