A Compliment you don't deserve: How to handle it?

I got a compliment yesterday on our band at a local festival, except it wasn't our band, it was the band after us! Awkward! I said thank you although I knew it wasn't us. Should I have corrected her?

"thank you, but I believe you meant to compliment "The Screaming Monkeys," not us, "The Creaming Monk Sees."

Memories....but the other way around:

My band was on a radio program once...we played live in the studio & got interviewed by the host DJ afterwards.

Listeners called in.

One caller...who knew the other guitarist in the band....complemented him directly on "his great lead playing".

He thanked the caller and made some comment about how much he had been practicing.

(I played all the lead work)

I sat there dumbfounded...

Maybe you should have, but if she made the mistake, she probably didn't care too much.

I hate when someone tells me they enjoyed MY playing, in front of the whole band, but doesn't mention the rest of the band at all. Thats awkward...

Take it!
Other great compliments are:
"You have gotten better"
"You sounded good today"
"You sound like a hundred bucks!"
And from a band-mate:
"nice playing against you"

In all the print reviews, the reviewers always compliment the other guitar player in the band. Yet, I recorded all of the guitars on the album.

It's a running joke in the band...

:bonk

I wonder if he should add "Mending broken friendships" into his practice schedule. I recommend 15 minutes per day at 60 bpm to start.

I was playing in this really crappy Top 40s cover band. Hey, I needed the money...

Anyway after one particular train wreck of a set, I step off the stage and someone in the crowd comes up to me and says me "You guys are GREAT!"

I grabbed him by the shoulders and screamed in his face "**** YOU, WE SUCK!"

Maybe not the most tactful approach, but I felt better for having gotten it off my chest...

Reminds me of when people ask you to play a song you either just played...
Played earlier in the set ... or played in the previous set ...
Happens ALL the TIME ... no kidding

We hear stuff like this all the time. You consider the source and take it in stride. The source usually being drunk people. 'Hey, you're the best guitar player I've ever seen! Me, 'You don't get out much huh? Or depending on our particular lineup, 'Really, I'm not even the best guitar player in the band, you should hear our bass player! Most people mean well and they're excited in the moment. They're happy and if we've played well we're happy. Win, win!

I got a haircut 13 years ago...day before my wifes surprise 30th...and the dimwit used the wrong blade and shaved my head nearly bald...1/4" tall...my wife accurately said it looked like a chicken butt

I wore a baseball cap to the party and one of my wives girlfriends got me to take the cap off...said "it looks awesome, you look like George Clooney"...I didnt know how to handle the compliment so I told her if she ever wanted to bang George Clooney, nows the time...
