Okay, I'm almost ready to build a Flying V... It has to be a solid color. Thus, it will be a Custom with the multi-layered binding and gold hardware... Like these:
    http://www.flying-v.ch/customs/fc_02lp/fc02lp.html#black

Fellow forumite Mark C says, "Candy Apple Red!"

    I am leaning toward black...

To me, in my obviously limited imagination, a Les Paul Custom would look strange in any color besides black. White is a stretch, even. However, we're talking a "V," here! I have seen Pelham Blue SG's that look fantastic. Tough...

So, I want to know. What is the TGP consensus?

for me, i'd go white, no contest. but, thats also what i'd pick for an lp custom if i was getting one too.

black would be my 2nd choice, that red looks pretty cool on it too.

That black one is sharp :AOK

I believe Dillion used to make black LP custom like V's as well, I wish I would've got one while they were still around.

It's as classy as a well pressed tuxedo.

Hard to go wrong with black. But white appeals to me too.

The next one you make should be a goldtop, with creme plastic, nickel hardware, binding on top, and trap inlays. :BluesBros

I would go black myself. And since you're building it, why not place the jack on the inside of the lower wing, instead of on top? That diamond down there with the jack annoys me. I think it messes up an otherwise awesome looking guitar.

That Dean is awesome looking :JAM

Here's a pic of the Dillion one someone referred to. Crappy picture, but you get the idea. Full triple binding, gold h/w

Black , only I'd use relic'd Nickel and make sure the binding is cream and not white . Ditto cvan on the jack move .

Friend of mine has an original '59 black Custom (not an "R" ) he bought in '73. Awesome thing to behold ....

The GoldTop motif is an intriguing idea... I'm trying to picture it. I definitely agree that the jack should be moved. Or, at least, a circular cover. The diamond looks kinda strange!

    Simple solution.

Do the Michael Shenker 1/2 white, 1/2 black "V":D

    Works for me.

    White, double yawn.
Candy apple red is cool but damn, be a little daring. If yer gonna do a custom V then keep the pimp hand strong!
