Is there a state with a worse reputation? Not that I know of. Yet, it's overcrowded as **** here so obviously plenty of people like being here. My wife hates it but she is from the midwest, which I totally get after spending a lot of time there with her family. We are more brash than most other places in this country, kind of hard to handle if you grow up with the opposite. I don't mind it here, especially always living within 10 minutes of the ocean, I just wish there were less people. Eventually the cost of living will drive us out and being a surfer that doesn't leave us many options.

From what I was told there's a line that forms going in and out of Cape May as people filter in and out for their week long rental beach house vacation's starts and finishes. Never have I felt more like an animal, like I was simultaneously part of a plague of locusts stripping the land and ever rinky dink grocery of any and all resources while at the same time feeling like cattle on a train to the slaughterhouse. Never got over 15mph. Never saw a grocery store you couldn't throw a rock across. Never again.

Had a condo near there and loved it. Spent time in Ridgewood in Bergen county & thought it was great. The shore towns are cool too.

Only Newark looks like crap... the rest of it is very nice. Born there, left when I was young. I love going back for visits.

Ya, you know, after hours in the vehicle at 15mph, you get out to stretch your legs and use the bathroom at a convenience store somewhere around Dennisville, and you ask the clerk, "how in the hell does it take as long as it took to get from Ithaca to Philadelphia to drive from Philly to Cape May?!" Then they look at you and chuckle an say, "first time in south Jersey in the summer? People flock in and out of here like this all summer on Fridays and Sundays."

Right, but that's what people from North Jersey try to emulate, the NY thang. It's just different in the south.

I gig at Carney's in Cape May and in North Wildwood, like 12 times a summer, I've gone down to Cape May and arrived at dinnertime on Friday nights, and I've never had that kind of experience. I've been playing Carney's since 1999.

Sounds like someone hit traffic once or twice, and just assumed that was the norm.

Only tourists don't know the rules about when to drive to the shore during the summer. It's called Thursday.

Actually, they cast it with people from New York (with one, possibly two, exceptions). And hey, if summer beach traffic bothers you, just do what I do... get on your bicycle and three minutes later, you're on the beach, thinking about whichever gig you chose to take that night and the outstanding musicians you're probably going to be playing with.

It took you 4 hours to get to Cape May from Philly? That's a 1-1/2 to 2 hour ride depending where in Philly area you are.

Yeah lots of farms in the southern part of the state. You learn why its called the garden state.

You stopped at the Dennisville WaWa on 47. Yeah that road is a nightmare at the wrong times during the on season at the shore points. We have a place in North Wildwood which is the island just north of Cape May. As others have said, you gotta know when to go and when to leave.

We'll be at The Inlet on Olde on May 25th, 3pm show, so it's early, and July 27th at 6pm.

Cool! We will come and check you out! Early is good too!

I think I've been in there once since Westy's sold it. Are you doing Carney's any time soon? No stranger to that place either.

    June 8th
    July 6th and 12th
    August 10th and 24th
    September 1st and 14th
