His implication, though, is that grey plate tubes are longer lasting and more durable than black plates, and that the latest "vintage" tubes in the 80s were more durable and higher quality than the 60s tubes! From a sonic point of view that'd be hard to assert, but from a durability point of view? Anyone got an idea about that?
