Koch himself could come here and he'd school me until I could school him back.
School me people, the people are learning and they want their tone lessons.

We can get to that when you can confirm that SRV used ‘59s in his red ‘62. :)

if every guitar in the world that had really bad tone was burnt all at once, this is what it would look like.

but then...the fralins..they get replaced with 12 other sets of boot-tick...and still no gold??

All that money, that's a lot of moo-lah.

How many pickups are sitting in how many draws? used sets on ebay?

I automatically distrust anyone who refers to themself in the third-person.

3 0 0 bucks for pickups? My goodness gracious me..

tone tip..i have a guitar that was heavy in weight and heavy in tone, a grateful customer just passed it to me one day..but the tone was too good to trash the thing ( it most certainly wouldn't have passed the Eugene tone test ( although something would have made me stop and think about it..), i mean, when I got it, I couldn't put it down for some reason despite this tone bandwidth that simply wasn't ''premium stock.'
The bridge pickup ( a stock fender tele bridge , ' nocaster'? ) predictably sounded fantastic..but the neck pickup was always going to be too muddy..always..I contacted a guy in Croatia who sent me a pickup for 40 bucks..40 measly bucks that had weaker a2? magnets..threw the thing in BOOM..tone explosion...I was in the zone..40 measly bucks..I forget his tag but he shouldn't be too hard to find....4 0 bucks..

    tripping. out.

any decent alchemist at least senses that the gold is in the making of the sound in the music, that it's up to the alchemist to decide their own tools, ingredients & process, and that zero gold resides in this kinda click-clack, backity-back, yappity-yappity-yapsterisms.

cluttered..this is like someone who tries to play lead guitar and use notes played very quickly with no sense of musicality, timing or consideration to intervals. You can be funky about it bro..smooth..

I've NEVER installed Fralins only to replace them. And if one did, it just means he didnt research enough or know exactly what he wanted the guitar to sound like.

I have zero used pickups in drawers. If I take a set out of a guitar, it means I dont like them. So I sell them.

Okay Eugene, so you just made it up when you said the guitars had the same pickups...you have no idea.

That’s no way to have a discussion.

Amps play a MUCH more important part in "tone" than guitar body wood. Should I create a poll? I guarantee the TGP collective would overwhelming agree. It's your thread, add that poll and see.

    less is best.

    - less signal path corruption in your amp ie preamp
    - less filtration in your amp is best, too much equals too clean and too thin
    - less effects( no effects)
    - less importance on paint
    - less importance on prestige
    - less importance on bling
    - less money spent for same given amount of tone is best
    - less bass frequencies to prevent mud is best
    - less highs to stop the tone being piercing highs
    - less..less.less
    - less sustain = more spank, spank is very, very good.
    - less lower mids = no mud..
    - less upper mids = less thinness to tone..eww i hate too much upper mid tone.

The right amount of frequency response is the right, no more. more = loss of tone.
