A trivial question about Coltrane's "Syeeda's Song"

    I know Naima was after his first wife, But Who is Syeeda?

    I read "Chasin The Trane" years ago and all that stuff`s in there ,,,,,,can`t remember but if you gotta know it`s in the book (great book !)

    Yeah, it's definitely a daughter, don't know if it was Coltrane's child or not though.

    Yusef and Coltrane both played in Dizzie's big band, and I know that Yusef had an early influence on Coltrane, turning him on to modes and spirituality.

    I studied with Yusef for 4 years in college- he told me some cool stories about Coltrane.

    I dug out a biography I have on Trane and it says that Syeeda was the daughter of Naima (born Juanita Austin). John met Juanita and a relationship immediately blossomed, they were married shortly after he joined Miles' band in October of 1955. Syeeda's given name was Antonia and she was born in late 1949 or early 1950. Her Muslim name was Syeeda (or Saeeda, as she now spells it).
