    Yup, it got to the point where I would watch the show mainly to see what he'd play going into commercials.

    Sadly, I don't think I really appreciated G.E. as a kid, even when I was playing guitar. At least I do now.

    I remember a GP interview where they asked him what he had, and he said, basically one of everything Fender and Gibson made until 1965.

    Those were my golden years of watching SNL too. As someone else said, I loved the segues to and from commercial. What a killer band. I saw them when they toured with Dylan in 1990 or '91.

    Somehow I have a recording of David Gilmour that starts with some female (possible Heather Locklear) saying, "With GE Smith and the saturday night band once again David Gilmour..." Anyone seen the video of that clip?

    Good stuff...I never appreciated G.E. when he was with SNL. (although I was envious of his killer gear)
