Just venting here.
I love my local shop. Great guy. Great service. Awesome repair and set up skills.
I am finding out that he is sitting on a goldmine of guitars that may never see the light of day. The guy is so busy switching out pups on Epiphones and restringing MIK acoustics, that he doesn't have time to fix up/repair trade ins that he gets.
So I am in there and there is a Silvertone Amp in the Case with guitar sitting on the floor. It has been there for a while. He tells me it is a trade in. I open it up and it is this pretty mint Silvertone guitar. Strings are probably 100 years old, but the thing is still in tune and plays like a dream. He says "Yeah, I have three more in the back. I just need to get them cleaned up." What else is sitting there? An R9 which has been "in the back" for about a year now. He also has a Jimmy Reed/Howlin Wolf guitar "needs some work". Heaven knows what else. My '73 SG, which is an awesome guitar, was something he "kinda remembered having somewhere" in his basement before I bought it.
He has a few cool ones on the wall, but most of his stock is MIC acoustics. I realize he has been in business a long time (long before I walked in the door) and needs to sell what will make him money, but I get the feeling he could have a shop that would make many TGP'ers drool.
I don't know. Just frustrated. If I had the cash, I would pick them up myself and clean them up. It is just aggravating knowing there are a bunch of great guitars just sitting there. So close and yet so far.
Thanks. I feel better. OK-Not really.
