What's your preferred way of launching scenes and clips?

I'm starting to get into more and more situations where I'm adding drum and synth parts on top of playing guitar and I'm trying to find the best way to organize and switch between sounds in my instrument rack and drum rack.

I used to use my boss gt3 as a controller for that. The switches would launch backing clips and I'd control a filter using the expression pedal. No audio through the gt at all. The gt pedals can make great MIDI controllers and they are built like tanks. The older models can be found really cheap as well.

Also had an akai mpd24 set up for that as well for a band mate doing vocals and loops. The pads would launch groups of clips, the faders would mix, the knobs would do effects. Back then live wouldn't work with the mmc used by the transport buttons, so I programmed one row of pads for play, stop, mute, and tap tempo. Worked awesome but the knobs went a little flaky after just two years. Build quality wasn't great in general.
