about the boss sd-1......

    which would be a better buy?, i can get either;
    sd-1 moded/808 by analogman for $80
    sd-1 "made in japan" for $70
    sd-1 "made in taiwan" for $30
    all are "used"
    please advise!

    analogman mod is $40 or so, so buy the taiwan, and if it's not quite good enough, send it to mike for the mod.

    Personally I would buy Analogman or the Japan. I have played an Analogman, and it was great.
    I owned a $30. MIT, did a $20 mod, and thought it was exactly the same.

    None.
    mod'ed or not there's still about 50 other distortion pedals with much better tones, don't tone suck and are quiet. Lots of em are around $100 new. :YinYang

    The SD-1 is pretty good stock as long as you don't crank the gain all the way up. It's great as a booster. That said, the Keeley SD-1 with the stacked chip mod is excellent.
