OK, so maybe not so much...lol!

It's funny that a guitar can bring more in parts than as a whole. I've upgraded a Fender Player's Deluxe strat with Suhr pups and Callaham trem and it's worth more separate than together. It feels wrong to part it out, but it would be stupid to lose the money on the guitar as is.

Anyone else feel weird about parting out a guitar?

If all Strats were created equal, no big deal...but parting out a special one would be heresy ;).

The problem with this one is the body (somewhat of a guess, but it's a lower end strat)...I might just replace it. We'll see

That's how I felt 15 years ago when a guitar tech who doing some work for me & was parting out a 1991 Custom Shop '57 RI ~ Black w/ Gold Hdwr. I'm not sure why he was selling it, but prolly to seek more money than selling it outright as a unit? I bought the neck & when I got home, I couldn't get the rest of the parts off my mind. I couldn't stand the fact that he was going to sell the parts off separately on a kool guitar. I ended up going back for the body & then returning once more for the gold hardware. Missing were the pickguard, pickups & controls. Also included in the deal was the COA, signed by John Page ~ dated Dec '91.

I've restored it back to factory spec just recently, when I learned that Texas Specials were the pickups originally used when it was made. A couple of other small incidental parts were easy to obtain. $300/body ~ $300/neck ~ $100/hdwr & COA. The Tx Spl pickups I already had...but had to have one re-wound. So for about $800-$900, I've got an early CS '57 RI Blackie w/ the old CS logo, that's in great condition for a 19 year-old & worth keeping whole. It doesn't sound too bad either...

Good save! The guitar I'm parting out is also black with a maple neck...but has a mint pickguard and silver hardware.
