"First off I used metal film capacitors in place of ceramic caps to improve fidelity and lower the background noise floor."

Weird. My green sovtek is really silent pedal, I've had/tried more noisy expensive boutigue muffs. I just realized awhile ago how good this green big muff is. Great combination with BK Butler tubedriver.

So you're basically saying that this is not the way to mod or clone a Muff?

Hi riis, glad to see you around here.. I was looking for that pedal too, seems like a good option for a muff.

Well that depends on where youre coming from.

Metal film caps modernize the sound and make it smoother. The ceramic caps retain the vintage sound and grit that most people want from a big muff. Thats why skreddy pedals are popular and most of the other 'we use reliable parts mojo isn't real' companies cant sell a pedal.

Ya know, I bought one of those green Russian Sovtek Big Muffs back in '94 or so. They were only $49 but I don't remember being blown away at all and I returned it. Now I keep hearing people talk about them and it makes me want to hear one again...

I think it's all relative. I had one and liked it but didn't love it. Next to the new generation of Big Muffs and the Black Russian Muff though it sounds pretty great.

Yeah, sounds better than the NYC. You will probaly say "wow this has a lot of gain" and the tone control is very useable.
The bypass sux and the idea of rehousing it is crazy because it is so byzantine-looking inside--it looks totally "made in russia" inside.
