Just through this one together this AM. Fun little 'classic AC30' tone. No OD pedals used.

Left - Gibson LP Std (normal channel)
Right - DeArmond M77-t (top boost channel)
Leads - Driskill Diablo-LC w/P90s (both channels combine)

    Smokin' Leon! Nice work.

Mine pretty much sounds just like that. Too bad you live all the way in CA, you and I would make a pretty nice guitar duo in a cover band together!

The only problem is we'd both sound exactly the same with the CC2 amps loaded with the Celestion Blues!

More clips when you get time, please!

Thanks! Well, I've got other amps that compliment the AC30 nicely (you may too, heheh). The Orange, Ampegs and Super Reverb contrast the AC30 nicely.

Neato , sounds absolutely great. Coincidentally I just played that tune for the first time this past Saturday at a wedding I played at and had no clue what I was doing. lol

Nice Leon! FWIW, that is pretty much dead on to how my beat-to-heck '62 JMI sounds. Korg sure got the tone right on these, IMO.

What cathode resistor setting are you using? My oldie uses an 82 ohm....

eric - heheh, ya, I actually listened to about a minute of the tune before I recorded this; just to get the feel. I've been asked to play this at jams before--at the last PRS jam, I played it on bass (sort of, heheh)--but I don't think I've ever heard the song all the way through.

redtop - dude...I don't even know what brand of EL84s are in it let alone the value of the cathode resistors, hahah! But thanks - yep, this is how I remember what I think of as "classic AC30" tone.

    WOY - yup, thanks!

Just wanted to pop in and mention how good that amp sounds. How loud is it to get that kind of breakup? I've never played thru one other than whisper-like low volumes.

If I'm right you can switch the cathodes between 50 and 82 ohms on the amp. Great feature.

    Sounds great Leon.

Never heard a Driskill before but it sounds killer through that Vox.

Very nice tones and playing all the way around Leon. Petty is my favorite. Between he and Campbell, I've never heard a tone I didn't like, and you conjured up that spirit very well...

Just saw those guys live in Milwaukee with Pearl Jam too... great show.

Man I love that clip ! That Driskill was'nt too shabby either. I'm tellin ya there's something special about driving the hell out of a Vox AC30 with P90's or soapbars. Very nice

Thank you guys, glad you're diggin it!

Myron - dude. YOU are the one whose picture is next to "on fire" in the dictionary, hahah!

GC - thanks bud! The amp was VERY LOUD on the lead track. I had the master up about 2/3 of the way and the channel vols both at near 12:00. I am soooooooooooo glad I added a sound-proof room in my new home office/studio. (A whole other thread for sure.) At last I can record things a) at volumes that that they perform well at without b) going deaf :D.

Unburst--Joe makes a postively wonderful guitar. The thing plays incredibly well. It's always sounded great but since I put the Lollars in it about 2 years ago, it absolutely smokes. Here's another Driskill clip. That guitar feels like a '59 Les Paul Std and sounds like a vintage Junior (or even a super strat).

hw2nw - Well, I had to break down and RTFM. And guess what...you're right!! I've never even looked at that switch before!! hahaha. Cool, now I've got something new to mess with.

Okay, Moods just left. We just got through 2 or 3 hours of ear-splitting good guitar and amp and pedal banging. We switched it from 44uF down to 22...man, definitely seemed to pick up more of the old JMI sound.

Wondering what Moods thinks of the amp now that he has put in some time on yours?
