I'm in the middle of Ace's bio and it's a good read. Very blunt with some good humour. Getting into music in the late 70's, it's hard to deny the influence Ace had on me picking up a guitar. I was listening to his solo "KISS" album and it's a great rock album.

PS. Next bio is Tony Iommi. Revisiting the hard rock years!

Ace's is cool, i would've liked more details about the recording of the later 70's albums. Also, too many "i was drunk and almost killed everybody, but once the cops realized who i was, they let me off" stories.

Tony's is one of my favorite rock bios.

he just played in erie PA a month back, there was a big stink about him being there as a lot of people were pissed off that some video and photos surfaced of him praising nazis and hitler etc, and him being a racist, and the fact that he charged $40k for an hour or so performance. alot of people refused to go to his show because of his racist actions and words that surfaced a few weeks before the show

If Ace has been influenced by Nazis...kind of ironic having Gene Simmons in the band, yes?

I kind of doubt that about Ace.

Kiss was after my time...although I like some of their music.
I remember my little sister in law was a TOTAL member of the Kiss Army.
I thought it was kinda funny...at the time I was totally into 'Wired' by Jeff Beck, and thought NOTHING could touch it.

Yeah, I doubt it, too. But Gene and Paul woulda had freakin' HIMMLER in a wig and spacesuit if there was $$$ to be made...

He doesn't get much hype as a player, but it's undeniable: his solos were absolute perfection- every single one of 'em.

I enjoy Ace's solo albums quite a bit and I like his style of music and playing.
I am disgusted by his self-destruction and anti-semetic ramblings and behavior.

But I have never regarded musicians or athletes to be role models for life. Just as I have never expected superlative human beings like Albert Einstein, Carl Sagan, Steven Speilberg or Shane McConkey to be terrific guitar players.

From what I understand he was too wasted, or simply didn't show up for the marjority of the recording sessions...so I would not expect he would have very much to say about those times. It's no secret there was a lot of "ghost" players on most of the KISS records.

Ace has German heritage and a collection of Nazi stuff that he would use to aggravate Gene & Paul. This & many other stories of questionable (drunk, young rock star with money to burn) behaviour may indicate a quirky sense of humor but that doesn't make him an anti-semite.

I'm right in the middle of Ace's book. I approach most of these biographies / autobios with caution because sometimes I really don't want to know all of the behind the scenes stuff. Ace was my hero when I was 7 years old and while I did not buy his book when it first came out I finally gave in and picked it up in paperback. So far, so good. I have been listening to Alive and it still takes me back to the 70s and affirms my allegiance to the Kiss Army!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ace has said that he can't remember a lot of the stories in the book. He and his co-writer interviewed people he hung around with those days and that is where they got a lot of the stories.

Pick up Lydia Criss' book "Sealed with a KISS" and you can see the pics of Paul, Ace, etc. in Nazi gear. I think Lydia's book is one of the best for giving a real unbiased insight into the KISS saga. Ace is no saint, but neither is Gene or any of the rest of 'em. But I still love 'em all... Ace is the reason I play guitar (and love Les Paul guitars).

Maybe always thought Gene was a total douche and would do anything ( no matter how tasteless ) to piss him off?
