    Hello!

I need a bit of advice on a guitar trade I may be doing. Basically, I have a nice guitar to sell in perfect condition. The guitar in question is a Musicman Axis Super Sport Rosewood (body, neck and board). It's the hardtail version with no piezo and I'm selling it for £800-850.

I had a guy contact me looking to do a trade for the following guitar:

It's a one-off custom build with the following spec:

mahogany body w/rockwood neck and board.
Zero fretted at both ends (24 frets) nickel silver frets.
    Gotoh Mini machines
Seymour Duncan 57 in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan fivetwo in the neck
    master volume
    Killswitch
    Fretlights (Red)
Pickholder recessed into the back of the top horn
    String through body
It was bought for around £2600.

I'm not doubting the trade, but I need to fund a new amp and this guitar seems pretty niche! I'd be meeting him for the trade and he seems like a really decent bloke but I wanted to find out if you think something like this is "sellable"? I only ask as I do need money for a new rig so having a guitar that won't sell is no use to me at the moment - I'd be buying it to sell it.

The only defect on the guitar is that one of the LED's in the neck is dead and apparently they're built in so it's be around £200 to get it re-wired. I can knock this off the price and do a good deal but I'm aware this would detract from a sale because of the upheaval of getting the work done.

    Any opinions would be great!

    Thanks,
    Chris

p.s. If the guy up for the trade is reading this, I'm not doubting your reasons for the sale, I'm just trying to guage whether it'd be a good investment!

You gotta be kinding!? That thing looks like an abomination. Sort of if Ron Popel and Esteban got together to create a gothtar they could sell on an infomercial. :barf1

I guess what I am saying is, I vote for keeping the MM.

Well, that's the point... I don't. But someone might. Maybe. And I'd make a great profit on it if it did sell. I know it's niche (REALLY niche) but the cost is tempting me...

Unless you have a gig on a Starship, I'd stay away from it. Have you tried it?. I doubt it would hold value.

Actually, my first thought was that it looked like a prop from the new Batman film... but I see your point!

I dunno man, talk about a limited market! If it were me, I wouldn't do it. I'd be afraid to get stuck with that ugly thing. Do you know anything about the builder at all? Not all "one-off customs" are created equal. The only way I even consider this deal is if I know all about the builder and am 100% sure his stuff has significant value.

Do it only if the lights blink.

Beautiful MM. Keep it, sell it or trade it for something you won't shoot yourself for later.

I'm not thinking there is even much of a niche market for that thing unless you can go back in time to the mid 80s hair metal bands.

Is the builder well known? If so, how do his/her other guitars do on the resale market?

Great. Now that you've posted this, Darth Vader knows what happened to his guitar.

No please don't trade your guitar. You will NOT make a profit for it. It's almost impossible to find a market for such a guitar.
