Affordable power amp suggestions for 11 Rack

Hey guys, I'm close to making the commitment to keep my 11 rack and was curious about suggestions for cost effective power amps to pair the 11r with my 1x12 Two Rock cab. I don't want to go hog wild and get big gear (qsc cab for example), but I'd like a good power solution to make this rig grab and go. I okay mostly at home and will likely use basic low cost monitor speakers for that application.

What advice do you have? I don't want a pro Axefx2 style rig. I can't afford it ;).

Thanks

i'm going to start using the loop input on my tweaker for an 11 rack stage rig. those can be had for $300, are all tube, and are pretty good amps on their own. i haven't actually tried this yet, but i've been assured it's a great solution.

i tried the rocktron velocity 300 for awhile and, while it's good, it's also very heavy and sort of a pain - so much so that i sold it.

i've seen a lot of chatter lately about those EHX .44 pedal-sized power amps. if those were to be good, the convenience level would be off the charts.

Thanks for that starting post!!! Those are two options I hadn't considered.

I had the V300 and now use the Magnum 44.

IMHO the Magnum is a better choice, not only "for the price" but overall. It actually sounds louder than the V300. At home studio conditions, I never managed to get it past 10 o'clock (!!) with my Mesa 1X12" cab. At about noon I believe it easily keep up with the loudest drummer.

:agree

The thing is ridiculously loud and I can't find much fault with it at all. With some clever use of velcro in a rackbag you could probably nicely mount the EHX in the back of the bag with all the cabling ready to go and only have to carry a 2 - 3 space back and the cab and be able to handle most gigs with ease. I wish it had an on/off button (turns on when you plug it in and apply power) but that is a minor gripe.

I bought a .44 mag to try and it arrived in non-working order...something wrong with the volume pot...so I returned it and decided to look elsewhere as I was concerned about reliability. I use the V300 and, while it is heavy, the reactance and definition controls make it more than worth the effort of lugging it around for me.

I'm amazed at the tones I get with my 11R and a pair of 1x12, EV loaded, theile cabs. Even at bedroom volumes I can get a nice low end thump with this setup...couldn't be happier! :)

I see people talking about the Rocktron Velocity 300, but what about the 100 model? Lower wattage and still designed for guitar?

I have no experience with the 100, but the 300 has a ton of headroom for my uses, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't loud enough...although, I don't believe the 100 has the reactance and def controls which are what makes the 300 so great, imo.

I had a Mag 44 but returned it because it was noisy. I play at low volume in my condo and it was loud enough to compete with quiet guitar late at nite. Of course, louder levels and gigging would not be an issue.

at Home the even Mag 22 would be more then loud enough to get you evicted or divorced. The Mag 44 Will go louder then you will ever need to turn it up.

IMHO the best 1ru amp is the Mesa 20/20...killer little tube poweramp. Stereo, 22 watts, and warm/ chimey if you want it...does high gain really well to.

The V300 is great, the Mag 44 is solid for what it is and actually very loud but has no EQ.
