    in the past month-ish i've:

sold the mark IV (giant leap for me. i've been wrestling that one for years)
    bought a budda SD18
bought a baja tele and returned it
    bought a 52RI
    sold the 52RI
    bought a strat
bought an envelope filter and sold it
bought a compressor and sold it
    ordered a throbak ODB

and this is after about a year of absolutely no activity

now.......i've been listening to too much stones and crowes lately (and started playing in a very 70s rock type of band) and now have convinced myself i need a backup axe of the gibson variety to go with the strat.

i've been eyeballing the joan jett sig. and a les paul jr. w/ p90's.

MAKE IT STOP. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!! I NEED PANTS BUT I WANT TO SPEND MY MONEY ON GUITARSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

i have an L6-s that i love (purely sentimental) but i don't think it's worth sinking any more cash into to get it working properly. naturally, it makes more sense to spend MORE money and just get a new guitar altogether, right?

Hmm, so you're buying and selling a lot of gear then. And the problem is? :)

it's not that, really.....i've gone through gear diarrhea before.

now i'm talking myself into another guitar.

(and i think i'm just in denial that the problem lies in the fact that i can't decide on which one)

as long as you do one of 3 things sucessfully:

    1. convince me i need the LP jr w/ p90s
    2. convince me i need the jett sig. w/ 1 pup and kill switch
    3. convince me i don't need either and am fine with a strat

then you are free to quote away!

or........just go ahead and use it. whichever seems more fun.

you need the JR, great compliment to a strat, and definitely has more of the RAWK in it than a strat.

The Joan Jett guitar just looks weird

Man you haven't even gotten started yet. Call me when you have bought and sold 10 or more guitars and amps in a year, and oh...40 or so pedals and then we'll talk ;)

Its pretty evident that if you hang out here you end up with way more gear then before you started. I wonder if it would be a lot different if there were no way of posting pics.....:D.

    It's a sickness I tell you!

As someone who didn't even realize I have 22 guitars (including my bass and lap steel), I can tell you there's a world of difference between "need" and "want".
When I made my living playing full time, I played just one guitar, usually my old Strat. I rarely owned more than one guitar or amp at a time. I had 2 pedals (a fuzz-face and a wah), and I played 5 sets, 5 or 6 nights a week. So it's not a matter of need. It's just plain fun to go to the gig with a couple of different guitars than last gig. It's fun to grab something completely different for that one track when in the studio.

Actually, I blame the internet. It didn't use to be so easy to buy and sell. Now, when we want something different, we just say, "OK, I'll just sell my ______." Gotta admit, it's worked for me.

it's a cross between want and need, really.

sometimes the single coils just aren't fitting my mood and it would be nice to have something else to play. i've never really p90'd it before and the doublecut has been in the back of my mind for a while. BUT i also miss humbuckers.....

i've chosen these 2 guitars as the finalists because they've got a good vibe and sound good. plus, they'll look great broken in and sometimes i drink too much beer and my guitar falls off (hence the need for pants).

i've broken 2 strings on this strat (high e, haven't broken a string in over 5 years on any guitar) and now i'm superstitious that it will happen at a gig and i'll need a backup.

Of course it is a good idea to have a backup. That's another funny thing. Way back then, when I generally only had one guitar, I broke strings fairly regularly (oops, guess it's break time). Now that I always have a backup, I break strings very rarely (about 3 times in the last 15 years).

It is nice to be able to pick something up that has a completely different sound and vibe. That's why I have all these guitars. A P90 machine would be a great addition. They're some of my favorites.

I have to sit on my hands to stop myself from dropping a few grand on a Don Grosh RC. :warning

Reading this forum doesn't help any! The music gear industry doesn't know how lucky it is. I'd never heard of a Sunface before coming here, and now one's plugged into my signal chain :AOK
