With a solid body electric which timber is your favorite & why?

I just picked up my first Tele today & had a hard time deciding between an Alder bodied one and an Ash bodied one.

I ended up with the Alder due to pricing mainly but quite honestly wasn't to sure on the differences?

    Would anyone care to elaborate?

I understand that Mahogany is a very nice mellow sounding timber & that Maple is, or can be quite bright, but as to the others out there I'm stumped.

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

Looks like I made a good choice both price wise & tone wise. I've been playing mostly LP's all my life & the Tele will only be my second Fender guitar.

I think I like mahogany the best. When necks are made from it they tend not to warp. The tone is usually rich and warm with a long sustain.

To me, a Gibson LP is the King of toan, mahogany & maple is teH sh*t.

I read that Les Paul originally wanted his sig guitar made of a Maple body w/a mahogany cap, but the engineers at Gibson told him it would be too heavy, so they reversed the two.:aok

Everyone has it's own voice, but I tend to favor alder on a tele. Rounds out the sound nicely. I have built with Maple and it is cool. I built it with 2 P90's like a 70's Deluxe with the big guard, gibson switch. It was a smokin piece, the guy in my band has it now and wow.
