Alder + maple vs basswood + maple

    How do these two wood combinations compare. The maple would be a 3/4'' quilt top. Neck will be birdseye maple. I'm torn between a quilt maple or a rosewood fingerboard. Pickups will be Dimarzio Norton and Air Norton. I play everything from blues to classic rock to heavy metal to shred/fusion.

    When you add a maple cap then the back would will be indistinguishable. They will sound as different as two of the same bodies with the same wood will sound a bit different.

    Alder stands up to abuse better if one cares about dings and suchlike...glad we avoided the "weighty" subject! <oops>
