The main thing I took away from that pic is that the great man looks happy.

While I'd love more Rush music, I'd prefer knowing that he's happy to another album at this point.

And just for the record; folks have commented on the differences between Rush and the Stones, and I agree there are different skillsets involved. But if you want to hear Neil in a completely different context than Rush (and realize he could play ANY style of music he chose to), pick up 'Burning for Buddy', the two-part Buddy Rich tribute-Neil Peart on a small kit, swinging a big band HARD.

Even when he was working his ass off touring and writing, from his lyrics alone it was apparent that he was a pretty deep mofo. Sometimes polemic, sometimes poetic, but at all times thoughtful.

Apparently he was the pupil of jazz drummer, Freddie Gruber, so I read earlier. Apparently he made a conscious decision to include lots of jazz and swing into his playing. OK, it's from Wikipedia, but sounds plausible.

He talks about it in a Rush documentary.

Based on the Hall of Fame performance, Geddy should join Yes

Marco’s new album is called “My Sister” and has recently been released. Alex is featured on the tune “Lovers Calling.”

I LOVE Neil, but the Buddy Rich tribute showed very clearly that Neil is simply not a jazz drummer at all! He was also very intimidated by the other drummers at the event and felt very bad about his performance. If i remember it well he didn't take lessons with Freddie Gruber untill some time after this event.

I'm sure he felt bad about his performance; I think that's part of what made Neil, Neil.

As far as saying the showed he wasn't a jazz drummer, I vehemently disagree.

One of the activities that made touring doable for Neil was motorcycle riding and the road vibration up into his wrists exacerbated his tendonitis. He deserves the retirement. His main concern was he didn't want to be attempting music he wrote as a fit 20-something while 60+ without the physical condition that permits it.

I've long said that he and Bill Bruford (another great retired drummer) should do a podcast or something about gardening.

Geddy has his book. Alex is doing session stuff. Neil is for all intents and purposes, done with drumming.

It was great while it lasted. But best to go out at the top of your game than turn into the never-ending farewell show with members who can't hack it anymore.

I can relate to Alex's view on it. I plug in, I play. It sounds good? Awesome, sold! Doesn't matter what's under the hood, I just want to drive!

For me, I prefer British-voiced amps, but I can't tell you the specs behind what does it. I just know what models will get me close to what I want.

They've also gone on record saying that they would never do that. There's no replacing anyone. If Geddy and Alex were to do something, I wouldn't expect any Rush material in the set list

That's an umbrella in his left hand. That's a cigarette in his right.

Even if it was a cane, the coffin nail is more troubling.

So tell me Larry, what makes Neil a jazz drummer?

Isn't he the nicest guy! I walked into him at the American Bookstore in Amsterdam. He seems to have a nice career in selling books going on at the moment.

    It's cold outside.
that is what I am saying,
    • Geddy bass,
    • Alex guitar,
    • other singer,
    • other drummer,
    • other band name,
    • other material.

With all respect for the decades of awesomeness, I don't want to hear Geddy sing those songs anymore, as much as I think it is going to be a nostalgic moment, it turns out to be souring of some of the most precious memories I have

Honestly though, doesn't Alex have Psoriatic Arthritis in his hands? I wonder if he can play at the professional level anymore.....
Maybe this is part of the reason there doesn't seem to be any talk of Ged and Alex building a new band. For Alex, maybe guesting on other's records is all he is able to do anymore. I'd love for them to prove me wrong!
