I love my DD2. bought it new when they came out. It's the last in line of my board, and sounds good on bypass (doesn't color the sound or very very little)
But l need a reverb on occasion. Is there an all in one delay with reverb that is true bypass,or has an amazing buffer that i can set to an ambiant delay/reverb when needed, small footprint.

Dispatch Master is the first to come to mind.

Midnight M30 THE SWELL is EXCELLENT for what you describe but pricey. I just had one built. Not entirely sure if i'm going to keep it yet just because of my vast collection of delays and not sure i have room for it on the board.

I have the Midnight30 Starry Night delay/reverb combo (whatever the name actually is).

The reverb is very nice. Sort of a Hall sound with a slight "Spring" reverb warble in the decay.

Delay is warm, a bit MXR sounding but not that dark.

Ghost knob gives you that extra ambiance you're describing although you can get that tone even without engaging it.

Worth noting: If you use reverb always on (as I do) when you engage the delay, you will notice the all around tone loses a little on the high end. There is a "bright" toggle but it only effects the Reverb. So if you have it on the bright setting and then hit the delay, you will REALLY notice a difference.

I've owned the pedal for 9 months and gigged it, sounds great. Yes, a bit pricey but not really considering its 2 pedals in one. Also, mine arrived with the delay not working and Josh fixed it right away. Nice guy.

Yes, Midnight 30!! The Sweell and the Starry Night sound so good. I currently have the Flashback X4 and the Midnight 30 Serenity Reverb. But have plans to upgrade to the Swell soon.
    Superb customer service from Joshua.

The Diamond Counterpoint is a great pedal - the Ambient mode is kind of halfway between a reverb and a delay and works well for me as a reverb, and the other three modes are all very musical and very useable. You could also look at the Neunaber Wet or Slate, and the Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport Sr.

EQD Dispatch Master (my favorite of the three for this application)

i held off for a long time on buying the EQD Dispatch Master. The demos sounded good, not great. Once I got it, I fell in love with it.

Another option is the Red Panda Context, has a delay mode with reverb that sounds very good, and somewhat comparable to a a DD2 with added reverb control (simple and effective).

I haven't played through one but demos from the Dispatch Master seem promising.

Another one I've heard of is the Noisemaker Effects Nebula. You might also want to get a multi-fx for just the delay and verb. But that's board real estate.
