currently Im using a Altec Lancing 417-8H Series II in a Thiele in a Thiele cabinet it sounds really cool to my ears and one of my favourite tones, also in a 1x12 open back situation.

Anyone else out there with any love for this speaker?

I have a 417h that I'm using in a 1976 Fender Deluxe Reverb. Love the sound, but it does add a bit of weight to the amp. It's my favorite speaker.

Been using this speaker since 91 along with a Jbl15. Not much sounds better. Was a well kept secret for years.

Yep, it sure does. I'm thinking about getting a 418 and cab to use as well. How do you like yours?

    Sorry I only have a 417 12" not a 418 15" .

I love the 417 - awesome speaker but my main Mystic Blues amp it dosnt like the speaker, but my number 2 amps loves it both clean and OD channels.

    thanks

Me too - mounted in a Forte S/V 3D vertical 2x12 cabinet. I love the detail!

I read some and heard some interesting things abut Mystic Blues amps. Sounds like you like it plenty if it's your #1. Too bad it doesn't like the altec 417. Love to hear and play through one, some day. Take Care

I'am running two of the 417-8H-II speakers, each one is in a closed back cab. One cab is fairly small, with light damping, the other is somewhat larger, with heavy damping.
Both cabs have a "presence" that is greater than one might expect, and really "throw" the sound, not boxy at all,,I love them, perhaps one of the best guitar speakers ever built.
