I am a newbie to the forum and I have gotten a lot of great information from reading posts. Here is a question for the amp-o-philes out there: I am a jazz player looking for a clean Fender tube sound. I recently played a Hotrod Deluxe (brown tolex edition) and really liked the clean part but the drive channels were really not good to my ear. In addition I have heard that the reliability and overall quality of these amps is, well, variable at best. Are there other combos can give a tone similar to the clean fender deluxe but a little lighter (under 40 pounds) that I should look at to compare? Thanks in advance for the advice!

Read some reviews on that. Maybe the 40watt or 50watt version would better suit the weight you're looking for. I've never heard anyone say they didn't like those clean channels! Very reliable amps

    Good luck

Look into Allen. My accomplice, 35W w/6L6s, is 38 lbs.

Thanks for the info, I'll look into the accomplice. Have to balance whether it is worth the extra $$$.

I did not like the overdrive on mine either. Do you want a tow channel amp?

I played a little jazz recently and got a Alessandro Commins. It is very light. I believe around 32 lbs.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

I have heard good things about both the Fargen and Comins/Alessandro. Sound clips of Fargens are on the website; however, I cannot find clips of the Alessandro's.

Also, both Gries (blackface clones) and Heritage (Burrell model) make amps that might fit the sound I am looking for. Does anyone have experience with either of these amps?

The other option is a Neo speaker that will cut weight in an amp. If the speaker sounds OK to you it may work.

DRRI? Too clean? They are about 35lbs. I love mine for jazz.

I love my Accomplice, but don't forget to try out the Carr Rambler.
