Am I crazy, or does this look kind of cool?

I'm testing a pair of Kent Armstrong hum cancelling HP90s (black) in my Mike Rowan Montara II, which still has the cream Harmonic Design VP90 in the middle. Kent's HP90s are incredible - beautiful authentic P90 tones with NO NOISE! Resonant piano-like clean clarity and very vocal OD tones. Thanks to Rob DiStefano at Fret Tek for turning me on to these. A remarkable and unexpected find.

Anyway, I'm just testing this set, and obviously the covers don't match, but as I've been looking at the guitar these few days during the testing, it's starting to grow on me. It's sort of like the zebra coils on a humbucker, if I can stretch the analogy.

Am I nuts, or does anyone else like this and think it's cool?

    Here's a short clip I did with the HP90s...

Pretty guitar, ugly p/u cover combo. :D

To me, it has a certain charm - gives it the frankenstein look. It has the vibe that it belongs to a player who is more concerned about tone than aesthetics. If it were mine, given the otherwise "fancy" appearance of the guitar (abalone inlays, gold hardware, figured top), I would go monochromatic with the PUP covers. YMMV.

    cheers,

    Edward

Agree. All cream would go along with the guitar's overall classy look IMO.

first of all nice clip! personally haven't liked Kent's pick ups so far.
as far as the color scheme, I like it and then again I don't like it. Depends on the way I feel any given day I think.

    Personally I'd go all-cream.
But with that combo, pass me the milk because it's OREO all the way!
Highly original & good for ID purposes too tho.
