Am I misremembering or was the very first 1980 Gibson Lucille a complete mess of a guitar?

I distinctly recall pictures of a guitar that lacked the refined statements of the 355/current Lucille. The electronics and knob placement was sloppy and it had dot inlays.

Some one tell me I'm not crazy.

You might be remembering the ES Artist, which had the Moog active electronics and dot inlays offset on the fretboard.

I believe initially there were two models. The Standard and Custom. The Standard had dot inlays. Also the early ones had a longer distance between the bridge and tailpiece.

I've always been curious on how they are as guitars versus a 335 or something similar.
There was a thread on this just a few days ago. I had an early 80s BB King Standard. It was a nice guitar, nothing sloppy about it. It had most things I'd want in a 335 and no varitone.
