I heard the intro to this tune recently and it stopped before the song came on, looked it up and was very disappointed.

I actually think "Walk On By" is dope. I want to get the record. I really dig Isaac Hayes's two record set Black Moses.

I can't even begin to try to wrap my head around the idea that 'Walk On By' is a boring song.

You know what, you got me and are totally right. Boring is not the right way to describe how I felt. The intro set me up for something else and the lyrical portion of the song doesn't fit for me. The music is awesome, but IMO the lyrics don't fit the rest of the song.

So, it's more of the mismatch that I personally hear between the lyrics and music and it was a let down, not boring.

I always thought the first few bars of Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" (the solo guitar part) promised something more than the song ever delivered.

    Dr. Feelgood for the win!

Look, the solo is cool...I actually think it is Micks BEST solo.

BUT, having this ominous, cool chugging thing and the ethereal warbling on the whammy bar, (awesome,) then...

    Bumpa - dumpa-dumpa-dumpa- bop- BOW
    Bumpa- dumpa-dumpa-dumpa- BOP BOW!!

What is this guys, The Frank Sinatra Metal Crooning Show?

It's cheesy....love the intro, love the solo....

    :)

Wow, I was gonna post the same song. That song has always bugged me for all the reasons you mention.

And, Don't Go Away Mad bugs me for the opposite reason. The song has a really cool (un-Crue) kind of sunny day feel to it, almost a throwback, and then it goes into that silly outro that to me just doesn't fit.

The song that comes to mind for me is "Sweet Jane" but not because the song is boring but that the intro is just so good!

OP, seems to me everything fits in the song EXCEPT guitar. All the strings and orchestration ties right in with the genre and the era.
