I've never really used effects loops in an amp, mostly because most of the amps I've owned didn't have them. I'm considering an amp that offers an effects loop option (custom build) but I'm told that the loop is for rack effects only.

So, what does that mean? Will a delay pedal not work in it? Is there any other device (booster, etc.) I could use in the loop to let me use the effects loop?

    Thanks.

Probably means that the loop send puts out a line level signal, which is much stronger than an instrument level signal. The input of an effects pedal is typically designed for instrument level, so a line level signal may overload it and cause distortion.

In practice, sometimes this is a problem and sometimes it's not. Some pedals deal with a line level signal with no trouble.

Thanks. It's just the opposite of what I had assumed. I'd have to believe that anything that would bring down the line level signal to keep pedals from overdriving would otherwise mess with the tone and not be worth it.

Cool! After I posted above, I was wondering if a product like that existed. That could really come in handy.
