I just switched from Cubase to Presonus Studio One 2 (S1) as my DAW. S1 has an amp modeling plugin called Ampire which, for a compact solution bundled in a DAW, I thought was decent. A British crunch amp with a tube driver in-front, through a Waves Producer (Kramer) plugin designed for guitar, I was very pleased with the sound. Obviously not in the league of my 11R, but for quickly being able to apply a patch to a dry recorded guitar tone, it's not bad. Of course, for final mixes I'd re-amp through 11R. I actually liked the tone from Ampire at least as much as Guitar Rig 4. And I detest Amplitube for my kind of tones.

On a related note, Cubase 6.5 just came out with some new additions to their VST Amp Rack (V1.5). I've never used that plugin though, because of the cost of Cubase. Steinberg is charging their customers $50 to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.5.
